I worked as a software engineer for two years in the knowledge management
practice where I spent most of my time as a database and content architect.
When we went through a large intranet to internet effort, I transitioned
our knowledge capital from one platform to another, incorporating user
interface and home page standards, common vocabulary, and brand identity
across operating units. All sites below are restricted access to Accenture
personnel only. Screenshots have been obtained with permission.
Technical skills used : Lotus Notes Designer, Formula
Language, Lotus Script, JavaScript, DHTML,
CSS, HTML, Photoshop
Functional skills used: Requirements gathering, resource & budget management, design & development, deployment & testing

Communications & High Tech Infosource
This
was my first DHTML project and a seminal event in my approach to usability. In the previous user interface, every link was a graphic file, which
slowed its performance and was difficult to maintain without the assistance
of a graphic designer.
As lead interface designer, I applied Accenture's branding guidelines,
implemented top-page navigation structure organized by industries,
and provided the dominant real estate to the latest announcements
as requested by the user community. |

Strategy & Business Architecture
The S&BA Marketplace houses Accenture's strategy documents. Its navigation required five or more clicks to access appropriate files. Another challenge was to define the categories and common keywords for several thousand documents.
My development team defined a consistent set of data categorization attributes. We applied the new taxonomy to each existing asset and improved the asset approval and maintenance process. We also implemented a "navigation by intention" structure, shown under the "I need to…" header. |

Products InfoSource
The
Products InfoSource was maintained using two streams of code,
one for the local Lotus Notes client and another for the internet
browser. This caused duplication of content management efforts and
intrinsic inefficiencies.
Our development team eliminated the double streams of code by implementing
a dynamic system that allowed non-technical content owners to update
content and navigation, post them on the site through their local
Lotus Notes clients, and become independent of technical development
support. |

Technology Site
The
Technology Site serves a cross-industry audience interested in accessing
Accenture's Technology offerings, examples of past work, and credentials
to sell more work.
The database had no user interface and presented its content as categorized
indexes. Our development team had to manage the agreement and adoption of a
universal taxonomy that would guide the new navigation structure.
Similar to the Products
InfoSource, the content owners
of the Technology Site can maintain the user interface links, navigation,
and content without technical assistance. |
