Adium : Multiple-Protocol Instant-Messaging Client      21.April.2006

Adium X is a great resource for the multiple messager program user. Itis a fast and free instant messenging client for the Mac OS. It allows you to stop the hassle of opening many different programs to accommodate your friends' user accounts.

Supported instant messager protocols include:
1. AOL Instant Messenger
2. ICQ
3. .Mac
4. Jabber
5. GoogleTalk
6. MSN Messenger
7. Yahoo! Messenger
8. Yahoo!Japan
9. Bonjour
10. iChat
11. Gadu-Gadu
12. Novell Groupwise
13. Lotus Sametime

Features:
1. Beautiful message display offers many message styles. You can customize the display without touching a line of code.

2. Tabbed messaging allows you to combine multiple chats into windows to save space. A window can have up to 10 tabs, or two windows can have multiple tabs. You can also separate out the tabs into individual windows.

3. Combine contacts allows you to take a user who has accounts with more than one messager service and combine all of their user names on your contact list into one, so you only see their user name once on your Contact List.

4. Encrypted chat called OTR Encryption that allows you to type a message, then click a button in the message window to automatically encrypt it. This would be good in a corporate environment with sensitive information.

5. File transfer is fast and reliable. I can send several photos and documents at the same time. It also accepts multiple file transfer requests. Photo quality is better if you send one at a time, however.

6. Message History is a feature I really like. Each time I start a new conversation with a friend, my last 10 or so messages sentences to my friend are displayed in grey. It's great way to jog my memory of the past IM exchange.

7. Customization galore! I can customize each icon showing beside my contacts' user name for each messager program, or make them all the same. I can also customize my status messages and status symbols.

Cons:
Available for Mac only. For my home PC, I use Trillian, which comes pretty close second.
