Website Redesign: Georgia Tech Academic Advising   21.April.2006

I work for the Provost office, and one of the sites under my responsibility is the Undergraduate Academic Advising. It is housed as one of the content areas within the Undergraduate Resources website.

BEFORE :
www.undergradstudies.gatech.edu

Analysis:

This website contained outdated and redunant information that had not been maintained in some time. Instead of referring users to the direct sources of information (registrar, financial aid, etc), the site contained content for these subject areas. Maintaining duplicate information was not only tedious but also not getting done.

In the redesign, my primary goal was to analyze the user tasks, work with the website
owner to create or modify content to support the tasks, revitalize the visual
design, and establish a new website with a distinct URL, taking it effectively
out of the umbrella of the Undergraduate Studies website.

Find Your Advisor:

Schedule an Appointment

Redesign:
User task analysis revealed students seek the Academic Advising site for two primary goals:

1. Find out who their advisors are
2. Schedule appointments with their advisors

Note the simple four link horizontal navigation and the secondary left navigation.

The new Georgia Tech template and guidelines were implemented.
